Field Trip Friday

We were eating breakfast when someone mentioned it was Field Trip Friday. Found a plantation on the other side of town. It was interesting to go to but I know there must be better maintained ones around here. There was a nature walk was the boys saw a praying mantis (or is it preying mantis??). They thought that was cool.

Came home and made cookies and then went to set my scrapbooking stuff up at the Wesleyan church to scrap tomorrow. Lily woke up and had a fit so we came home. She is still having a fit. I was working her into a schedule but if you go out, that gets all messed up. Anyway, I might feed her tomorrow and then go scrap for awhile and then I am not sure what. I would love to have her there but I can't have her having a fit on me.

Evan turns six on September 3rd. We are still in negotiations about the activities for the day.

Before we had to leave the scrap, an elderly lady was telling me how much of her husband's family was in the Salvation Army and told me about how that church runs. Interesting--it is set up like the real army and people have ranks--I would love to visit one of their churches. Sometimes I think it would just be fun to visit a different denomination every week to see what they are like. Yes, I know that is weird. Did I mention I am tired?

Walking in a Fog and a Really Expensive Pool

Wow, yesterday was quite a day. I was in a fog all day, trudging along trying to get school and laundry done. Miss Lil had a terrible night, and I was so tired all day. Wanted to stop and die for awhile, but it was my laundry day and school needed to be done. What are ya gonna do?

We had dinner plans with friends from the old church who had a guy from that church build them a house. It is a higher end version of our little house in Boyceville, but with an extra bathroom and a $48,000 in ground pool. No, seriously. It was gorgeous and my kids has so much fun swimming. These are Floridians and they live in the pool. Fun time was had by all, even me in my fog. They live an hour away. It is such a bummer we have no friends less that a good half hour away. And nobody with kids over seven.

Working on getting Lily more scheduled. I could spend my whole day trying to keep her happy, but clearly, that is not going to work. I am really wishing she had her own room. But she doesn't.

Nutty Mother

Not me, the cat. She moved three babies down by the lower level door and left the other ones up on the deck. What is up with that? Finally gathered them all and brought them inside. She can come visit them.

Went to the dentist--woo hoo. Closest I get to spa time.

Planned to fry another turkey but Alec has a hard time getting the difference between the fridge and freezer. I told him to put the bird in the fridge but he put it in the freezer. So, the last pan of lasagna I made pre-baby is in the oven.

Flopped at cheese curds today. They looked firm, FFN, but I rushed them and then fell apart. They made fabulous cottage cheese, however. In fact I am going to start making cottage cheese that way. Will try curds again tomorrow because they are sooooo good.

I think I am taking Alec to see the Harris Brothers conference in Alabama next week. I think. He really enjoyed their book.

Finally made appts for the older kittens to be altered and Ian just told me yesterday he heard Rose crying over by the lawn mower. We couldn't find her but now we haven't seen her for a day and she is always with Milo, her bro. Good grief. We go through cats like water. Two is the new kittens already have their eyes open. Seems wrong.

Feel like cleaning something out and taking things to Goodwill. Look out kids!

Week Three

FFN made it home safe and sound. Seems so funny to think she was way down here with us.

Week three of school. Trying to go full blast with the schedule. So far so good, I suppose. I am still pretty tired but trying to do the full schedule, nonetheless. Might be pushing too hard, but it seems easy to use it as an excuse to be lazy. And after seeing the life of someone living on excuses, I am trying so hard to not cut myself any slack with that.

Mama Kitty moved the kittens to a different spot on the deck. I was worried something took them. They are still all five alive and pretty vigorous little things.

We are bowling tonight with our bowling friends. Tomorrow night I have a dentist appt and then Wednesday we are visiting the new house of other friends. We don't yet have any friends with kids Alec or Ian's ages. I get to scrapbook this weekend.

We decided to go visit the chapel at Bob Jones University for church. I thought maybe since it is geared toward the college kids, it wouldn't have all the kid programs I hate. I am sure they also play hymns and not contemporary stuff. Nothing wrong with it, but not our cup of tea.

Have I always been this boring? The blog used to be more interesting to me.

Off They Go

Dan, Ian and Adam left at six this morning to take the northerners home--well, at least to the Atlanta airport. I am telling you, I know there is a family up north who is going to appreciate their mama sooooo much more after this week. She had never left them before and I know they suffered while we got to enjoy her. She had brought her toddler with her, who did very well, considering she was in a strange house with strange people and without all her siblings. She is the smartest toddler I have ever seen.

Fifteen chickens and six turkeys are in the freezer. We are down to eight hens, one rooster and a pair of turkeys. Fewer than I'd like, but just what we need.

So, pies, cheese, soda pop and poultry were our accomplishments this week. And lots of talking. We have a couple of social engagements this week and plan to solidify the schedule. I think I have it all figured out now and the kids seems to be happy with it. Yesterday at 2:00 Evan announced it was time for him to do the computer because it was on his schedule. Never mind it was Saturday and that was the first thing he decided to do on his schedule all day. Don't argue with the schedule. Goof.

My back muscles are so sore from nursing in poor positions. Ouch. Lily has figured out how to poop like a normal child now. Wonder why it took so long.

Going to take the people I have here out to breakfast.

Pie Making Day

We will see if old Lil lets me type this. We made pies today; froze most of them but baked a couple for tonight. I emptied out my little chest freezer to make room for the birds tomorrow. We are going to get set up tonight and stick the roosters inside the chicken coop, while keeping the hens outside. Have to go buy ice tonight--otherwise, I think we are set. Still not sure what I will do with Lily, or how much I will be able to help, but I want all these birds done tomorrow, so I will do what I need to do.

Lily had a much nicer day yesterday and today was somewhere between the two. School has been progressing fine, although I am three days behind on grading. Will try to catch up Sunday and go full tilt with the schedule next week.

We have to leave here Sunday at 6 a.m. to get FFN to the airport in Atlanta. Time flies so fast. It has been so nice to have her here.

We are having lasagna with cheese we made yesterday.
