Honey and Pictures

Don't you hate growing out your hair? Miss Lil has this really long hair right on top, towards the back of her head. It is probably two inches high now. It holds a little bow well, but otherwise, sure looks funny.

The males are harvesting honey today. I would be also, but a scrapbooking day was announced this week, so I will be going to that and taking Lil. I am caught up on the family album (through October, just sayin'), but I need to work on Lil's album. I suppose it is about time to work on Adam's yearly one, also. I just do a two page spread for every year and then they will have an album of their lives to take with them.

Read the booklet the crazy Apostolic sent us. FFN said she received one in the mail, also. He has seven kids and no job and he is spending money printing and mailing out these dumb things. And it wasn't very good. In fact, it was kind of disturbing. He implied people flock to him looking for advice on how their family can be just like his. Good grief, it was embarrassing to read such a load of baloney (by the way, I think you spell it bologna if you are talking about the food and baloney if you are talking about a load of hooey---not sure). He went on and on about money and good stewardship. Oh my. Just lost your house to foreclosure and using yourself as an example of using money in a Godly way. I am so irked with him, I just want to smack him.

Too Much

Taking a break from building my IKEA desk. I was holding Lil while working on it and I messed part of it up. Grrr...

Ok, this is the too much part. Did I ever tell you about our crazy Apostolic friends from Menomonie? They are such nice people but they are nuts. He was the pastor of a tiny little church. Last we had heard, they felt led to move from Menomonie and the entire church was moving to wherever he decided to go. Freaked us out. The birth announcement I sent them got returned with no forwarding address. FFN took it down the road from her to his nephew's house and our friend was actually there.

Long story short, turned out he had refinanced his home at some point and it soon after was foreclosed on because he wasn't paying the mortgage. They ended up north of Green Bay and he has no employment at this point. Have no idea how he is supporting his SEVEN kids. They are not like FFN's family, who could probably live out in the wilderness. Most of the church didn't follow him--just his nephew's family and some single guy.

That is the sad part but not the crazy part. Today, in the mail, we received a booklet he wrote on how to have a strong Christian family. Nothing wrong with that, but I start reading about how you need to stay out of debt, including mortgages and USES HIMSELF AS AN EXAMPLE!!! OH MY GOODENSS. He says he got rid of two houses and now rents and is so much better off financially. Good grief, the bank took his house, he is unemployed and I can't imagine he could get a mortgage if he tried. Gee, I wonder why people think Christians are a bunch of hypocrites. TOO MUCH.

Happy Baby

My little baby is on my bed looking at me with a big happy smile. She is so happy. She giggles and giggles. What a joy.

My toe is better. It got swollen and red and hot yesterday, so I know it had some infection. I ate garlic until I could not stand my own smell and soaked it and every other thing I could think of.

In the night, Evan got up and used my bathroom. Weird. Got up to check on him and then used the bathroom after him. Went back to bed and found him in my spot in the bed! Told him to go back to his own bed. Then after a few minutes he came running in to crawl in Dan's side, but papa bear was there. Will have to see if he even remembers it this morning.

Hmm...it is 7:05 and I don't hear any alarms going off. Better go investigate.

So Far So Good

Yesterday really went well. Attitudes were good and the morning went smoothly. Went to bowling. Dan picked up the new counter top. I am so relieved that I think the color goes well with the red of the cabinets and the yellow of the walls.

The only bummer of the day was when I drove all the way to the mall to get Lily's Sears pictures and, at 6:30, found out they closed at 6:00. Grr. Heading back today.

Having a problem with Adam lately. He is so into everyone else's business. We went to the chiropractor yesterday and when he would ask someone how they were, Adam would answer for them! He even did it for me! "How are you feeling Miss Rena?" asks chiro. "Oh, she's doing fine." says Adam. He is doing that a lot lately. I really see how any good quality a child naturally has still needs to be guided. Leadership qualities can just become bossiness, you know? Never a break in parenting.

This morning moved along well, also. Have been sidetracked with a minor ailment. I have an ingrown toenail, I think, and last night I started seeing the dreaded red line going done my toe, which I always hear means infection is entering the blood stream, or some horrible thing. I have been eating garlic and Echinacea. Have soaked it is Epsom salt and plantain tea. The red streak is gone, but it still hurts.

Real Day One of School

I guess we're doing ok. Have done school with each child individually and the little boys together. Got chores done and Lily was in a good mood while she was up between naps. Got a new literature study to do with Alec. Funny thing is the first book to read was Around the World in Eighty Days and that was the next book we planned to read, anyway. Reading Where the Red Fern Grows with Ian. We listened to that once in the car so we are kind of familiar with it.

Reading Summer with the Moodys with the little boys. The Maxwells' oldest daughter (27 and unmarried, just sayin') wrote it. At first glance it appears to be painfully boring, but we'll slog through it. Also reading The Story of the Pilgrims with them. Evan is finally starting to really get the proper way to say "R." He is kind of a lazy talker and "R" was really a struggle for him. I would get so excited every time he said it correctly when he was reading. It is a relief for both of us. We would both get frustrated working on it, but I just could not imagine letting him go through life with a speech impediment and I didn't know if he would just work it out himself or needed help. Had him evaluated once and was told he was ok but I wasn't sure.

My computer time is 11:00. We need to eat lunch early today to get off to bowling. Our bowling buddy's mom emailed me that they might be too sick to go bowling but asked if I wanted to go to the botanical garden with them afterwards, even if they skipped bowling. Huh? She is tired of bowling. She has a toddler she lets run around and it wears her out. Do you ever watch someone doing something that is just making their life harder? It is frustrating. But she hasn't asked me what I think so I haven't told her.

Have to go pick up Lily's Sears pictures tonight at the mall. Hopefully, that will be the last running I do for awhile. So tired of running all over tarnation.

Back from Vacation, Kind Of

Took the kids to see Ken Ham this morning. Man, he has an important ministry. www.answersingenesis.com . The first session was for elementary school kids and the later one was for junior high and high school. He has lots of graphics which keep the kids interested. For instance, he showed a picture of a fossilized hat from the 1800's. Huh, guess it doesn't really take millions of years to make a fossil. We saw a few kids from the church we used to go to but I was surprised there weren't more home schoolers there. I think just Alec and I are going back for the last session tonight.

I put a pair of stockings on Lily for the first time. I really don't like little girls in dressed because they always seem to end up hiked up, showing their bums. Anyway, I had her wear the pink and white dress from her pictures and put some stockings on. Still can't keep shoes on her feet so she just had a little pair of socks on over. She had a bow in her hair--she looked quite precious, despite the boogers flowing out of her nose.

Sent the kids out to play after quite time. Noted they are in the front yard. Alec came back in quick so I asked why they can't play in the 4.5 acre fenced in yard. He said Nellie, the little dog, jumps all over them. That just isn't going to work. I am not providing all that land for dogs and not kids. Yeah, I could maybe teach the dog to not jump, but you and I both know that is not going to happen.

Tomorrow will be our first real school day. Bowling in the afternoon. Only three more of those left. Did I mention I agreed to take that over for the spring session? Not sure how that will play out. Haven't been in charge of anything for some time.

Easy Peasy

Have you ever worn those ankle weights for awhile and then taken them off and felt like a ballerina because it was so effortless to walk? That is what it is like with Lily asleep. Wow! Look at what I can do with TWO hands! Typing with two hands. Laundry with two hands. Scrap booking with two hands. It is so easy!

Dan and three boys went to see Ken Ham this morning. Since I had a good chance of spending it out in the lobby, I decided to pass. He has something going on tomorrow morning I will take them to. First day back to school and it is a field trip. They are going back tonight also.

Adam, Lil and I went to the grocery store. Adam was getting annoyed with the boy carrying out our bags. He likes to do that. He really likes to work but he can get so bossy about it. Need to balance that out.

Dan got the kitchen walls painted. The counter is ready to pick up. The floor shouldn't take too long to get down. I think then we can get the pantry back in and life can be a little more normal. It is a mess now. We have to shove all the stuff on the table into the middle in order to eat. Last night we ate pizza in the mud room. That was mostly because of the paint smell.

We don't trick or treat and we don't hand out stuff. Halloween isn't part of our lives, so none of that was going on yesterday.

Got the schedule redone for tomorrow and after I go through school stuff tonight, I guess I'll be ready. I guess. I feel like I failed this vacation month because I sure don't feel refreshed and I can't look around and see how much better things look because of the work we got done.
