Oops.

Well, someone wasn't paying attention the last time we were at the ortho. Apparently, today was just to take pictures and put spacers in Adam's mouth. Next week is bands and the following week is the torture device. Got it.

Also, when the ortho told me his son was seven and he was doing a palatal expander on him soon, what he meant was he doesn't have a son who is seven. Today I was told he had twin sons, four months old. I asked how many kids he had and he told me just those two. I am sure I understood what he said about having a seven year old son before. What is that about? Now I am irked. I need to ask him next time. Which is next week!

Alec now has rubber bands that are keeping him from opening his mouth much. He is not pleased.

The fridges are getting cleaned today. Raining outside. Fun times.

Big morning.

Getting Ready to take Alec for his regular ortho appt and for Adam's palatal expander. I guess that is what it is called. He is actually a little excited. That is so Ad. We bought him some soft foods last night and I made blueberry ice cream and promised to make some home made pudding. I am more anxious than he is. I remember when Alec got braces, I felt like crying. Feel the same way now. Silly mother.

Just for the record, I woke up looking like I was 90. Also, Evan is the slowest human on earth.

Working Men

So, Evan is helping Dan put in the new blinds in the kitchen. Ian is tightening screws on the stainless steel island type thing in the kitchen. Alec and Adam are putting together an IKEA dresser for Evan. I have been working on Ancestry.com. I saw a commercial for it last night and just decided to pop on and see if I could find anything new. I worked on it quite a bit a few years ago, but haven't touched it since. Wow, I found some lines way back to the 1500's. My parents were from Vermont and I have ancestors on both sides who were here and in Canada in the 1600's. Her line came from France and his from England. There are some lines that I can't get back past my great grand parents. That is a bummer. My maternal great-grandmother was adopted in Boston in 1908, so I can't go anywhere with that. I dig genealogy. Ancestry.com has gotten really expensive but you can do it for two weeks free.

My toilet died. About a month before I was going to replace it. Thirty years old--couldn't hold out another month. We are going to go buy a new one this morning. Hope Home Depot isn't too busy.

Birthday and Thanksgiving

Spent five hours in the van yesterday for Ad's b-day. Two hours to Charlotte to the Discovery Place and three hours home in traffic. Yuck. Got him an Mp3 player so he can listen to all his Jonathon Parks and Narnia and Patch the Pirate stories. Also got him a nice tape measure and a rubber band ball. Evan set up a great treasure hunt for him. I was really impressed with what he put together. He is one smart little kid. For pleasure he is reading Ian's fifth grade Astronomy textbook. He also likes reading Alec's survival handbooks. Six years old. Funny, funny kid.

Today, Dan and Alec hunted again and then came home so Dan could fry the turkey. Makes Thanksgiving a lot easier for me! Made gravy out of some broth I canned a few month ago. Ian put the ingredients for the rolls in the bread machine. During that process he somehow managed to get butter on my new valance on the other side of the room, far far away from anything he needed. Not sure how he managed it.

Ian made an arrow out of bamboo, chicken feathers and a rock. It actually went into the target--we played archery for a bit after dinner. Adam can do it pretty well all by himself now.

I emptied the armoire that is my pantry out after dinner so Dan could take the feet off of it because it was too tall and then put it back in the kitchen. Now I get to put it all back in a nice orderly fashion tomorrow. Woohoo. They are going to hunt all day tomorrow, so I will try to finish stuff in the kitchen. I can put the desk and bookshelves back in, also, if I have time.

Ouch. Really Ouch.

My back is messed up again. It is one spot under my shoulder blade. I know it is a holding baby issue and sleeping exacerbates it (have NEVER typed that word before). It HURTS. I can hardly hold the babe. Not loving life right now.

Also highly annoyed that, for the second time, the water people have just shut off our water to do work somewhere. Is this common with city water? Drives me nuts. Teeth aren't even brushed yet. Yes, I have emergency bottled water, but I am hoping it just comes back. Dan just called and said they don't know when it will. So, no hot shower for back.

Too many people getting swine flu. Freaking me out. I think what freaks me out is if this were a more serious virus that was killing people, it is scary to see how fast it is making the rounds. Stay out of Wisconsin, for sure. Just sayin'.

Alec shook the milk bottle this morning but the cap wasn't on right. Landed all over Adam's head. Could not help but laugh.

Whipped by Life

Got the pictures taken today. They turned out ok--not great. Am fine with the Christmas card. They made a square picture of Lily that just knocked me over. It was so cute and will look so neat in her room. Am sending more cards this year than I have in a long time, but no Christmas Quiz this year. I just don't have it in me. I am whipped and worn out. I need to get this house and life back into order or I fully intend of going off the deep end.

Just getting everyone to pictures and spending the time while waiting for the pictures to be ready seemed hard--I had broken a sweat by the time we were arriving at the picture place. Goodness. Left at 9:00 and got home about 2:00. Then, after dinner, went back out to take the three boys shopping for Adam's birthday, which is Wednesday. He is so excited for his birthday---it is cute.

Two chicks hatched out the other day. We are leaving them alone with their mummy.
